UHH is the largest institution for research and education in Northern Germany. As one of the country’s largest universities, it offers a diverse course spectrum and excellent research opportunities. The university boasts numerous interdisciplinary projects in a broad range of subjects and an extensive partner network with leading institutions on a regional, national, and international scale. Currently UHH has more than 40.000 students and more than 650 professors. Scientists from UHH are involved in more than 150 projects funded by the EU. The UHH team members are located in the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. The Department conducts research on topics within social policy, social inequalities, marginalization, social exclusion and work inclusion. The UHH team will benefit from its long established connections with stakeholders through the Centre for Globalisation and Governance (CGG) in the implementation of EUROSHIP.
Research Professor for Cultural and Institutional Change at the University of Hamburg. She holds a PhD and is habilitated. She was professor at Universities in Berlin, Jena and Southern Denmark, and the Chair for Social Structure Analysis and Scientific Director at the University of Hamburg, where she was 2018 awarded her current Research Professorship.
She was Visiting Professor at Universities in Barcelona, Aalborg, and Tampere, and Honorary Professor at the University of Southern Denmark.
Her main fields of research include historical and cross-national comparative research about culture and welfare states, family policies, gender and the work-family relationship, and labor markets. She has published numerous articles in international scientific journals and published books with international publishers of high reputation.
One of her articles in Work, Employment and Society (WES) was awarded by the British Sociological Association, SAGE and the Editors of WES 2012 as “Favorite WES article of the last 25 years”. She was leader of two research projects of the German Research Council (DFG) and co-ordinator of the EU project FIWE, she was the German partner in the EU project FLOWS and is currently the German partner in the EU project EUROSHIP, and she participated in the Management of several international research programs (ESF Scientific Network GIER, COST A13 Action, EU Network of Excellence RECWOWE). She is member of the Board of ESPAnet.
Post-Doctoral Researcher at the University of Hamburg, Germany. He was Visiting Scholar at the UC Berkeley, USA and Aalborg University, Denmark and earned his PhD at the University of Hamburg, Germany. His research revolves around comparative welfare state research and comparative political economy with a specific focus on institutional and cultural change in European social policies and the marketization of social services. His most recent publication has appeared in ‘Ageing & Society’ and ‘American Behavioral Scientist’.
