WORK PACKAGE 7
Objectives
The aim of WP7 is to analyse how long-term care policies shape the capabilities of low income elderly and persons with disabilities in the context of an increasingly digitalised service economy and offer recommendations on how the EU and national governments may overcome currentgaps in realizing social rights to long-term care. The specific objectives of WP7 are to:
- improve our understanding of the ways in which long-term care and health policies affect citizens’ opportunities to cope with risks related to care needs over the life course, i.e. how care policies shape capabilities, understood as the scope for living the life one has reasons to value.
- provide a gender-sensitive and Intersectional analysis of historical change and continuities and cross-national differences in social risks related to care dependency within and between countries, with a particular focus on the situation of low education elderly and persons with disabilities;
- analyse the factors that are relevant for the explanation of historical change and differences within and between European countries regarding the ways in which European citizens have exercised rights to long-term care, and the consequences for low income groups. In this context, we will examine the role of family members in providing long-term care (“care cultures”).
